Grilled Banana Sandwich, instead of Arepas con Platanos y Queso

A perfect November day in Szentbékkálla, where I wanted to grill some Venezuelan arepas on wild fire, but only found Hungarian type of corn flour, so it didn't come true.... Instead as we already had the bananas, cheese and cilantro, we made some banana cheese sandwich grilled on woods with coriander. I was quite tasty still....if you are bored of sausages, pumpkins and potatoes at least.

This is what you need to make proper arepas:

Saturday Market, Rhubarb and Quince Pie

The closest market to us is the MOM Biopiac, organic market, which is quite lucky, as there is a playground too, apart from the sometimes overpriced but very good local market, so it can be a perfect family program. Also there is the sunny Mom cafe, perfect for sunbathing even on a sunny January day. This week I found some rhubarb unexpectedly, so I tried it combined with quince, and they are very tasty together in a pie crust. It looks to me as Australian recipe, or at least I have only found this combination only on Australian an New Zealander web sites. Just cooked them separately in sugar, water, lemon and spices, and put them in a simple crust made of butter, flour, salt and sugar.

Making our first rose-hip marmalade

It is a very time consuming procedure to make rose hip marmalade , but it definitely worth it. First you have to cut both ends of the fruit, then you have to cook it till you can mash it. Then it is necessary to filter it so you get rid of the seeds and hair-like little things (that is 2/3 of the whole thing). We had more or less 3kgs of rose hips, and ended up with not even a litre of marmalade, but very delicious marmalade.

Roast duck leg, potatoes with cabbage and quince sauce

I've found a perfect use for the quince sauce I have made a couple of days ago. Just roast the duck legs for 1 and a half hours on a rosmary-garlic bed ( add the potatoes half way, so they roast in duck fat), and make some purple cabbage in white wine with cumin seeds, and serve it all with quince sauce. Crazy delicious october dish!
